Check back here for an update as to the reading schedule. Students will read in class and have an outside reading book as well. Final project will be a short story - of their own authorship!
Guidelines: Due Date: Friday, May 25, 2018, at 4:00 p.m.
The short story will be 3-4 pages long double-spaced and submitted to turnitin.com before final submission. A proficient story will :
- Set out a problem, situation, or observation of significance
- Establish one or multiple point(s) of view
- Introduce a narrator and/or characters
- Create a smooth progression of experiences or events that build on one another to create a coherent whole
- Use a variety of techniques to sequence events so that they build toward a particular tone and outcome (e.g., a sense of mystery, suspense, growth, or resolution)
- Use precise words and phrases, telling details, and sensory language to convey a vivid picture of the experiences, events, setting, and/or characters
- Provide a conclusion that follows from and reflects on what is experienced, observed, or resolved over the course of the narrative.
- Use the editing process, the writer will:
- write and edit work so that it conforms to the guidelines in the MLA style manual.
- vary syntax, sentence structures, lengths, and starters, avoiding awkward constructions.
- use grade=-appropriate words and phrases with accuracy.
- Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling with few errors
